Uniting the World

Pursued by the deadline of my thesis next week (although it is only for format check, but I still treat it as the deadline), my heart is deeply touched by what the Pope John Paul II is going through now. I heard many voices saying that he should resigned because his illness made him incapable of leading the Catholic Church. Well, this statement is proven wrong. A pope is not only about bureaucratic leadership and he is not at all a corporate leader. He is a spiritual leader but at the same time a servant. He is also a reflection of Christianity in the Catholic Church. It may be hard to grasp for those who are skeptical towards the Catholic Church, and I can't blame them, because it is hard. A pope is a symbol. His life should represent the teachings of the Church. Of course every Catholic should do the same. The presence of the Pope help the Catholics as a reference.

The Pope has political power, not repressive power, but advocative power. That differentiates him from governmental leadership. After all, it is about humanity and peace.

Now, Pope John Paul II's life journey is near a significant change. He may soon be physically leaving the world, but his work in the Catholic Church and in the world will remain forever.
